A spawn of Kyuss (sometimes called son of Kyuss[1][2]) are vile, zombie-like undead given sentience and special abilities by the green worms that inhabit their bodies.[1][2][3] Such a worm can be delivered to a target living creature via its slam attack (and also inflicting a supernatural disease called Kyuss' Gift[3] ) or via a melee or ranged touch attack. Such a worm burrows through the victim's body eventually reaching the brain, killing it and animating the dead as a new spawn of Kyuss.[1][2][3] On the other hand, the empowerment of the worms makes a Spawn of Kyuss vulnerable to remove disease, remove curse, and similar spells, which destroy the worms inside it and render it a normal zombie.[1][2][3]
Spawns of Kyuss are mad and of low intelligence[1][2][3], existing mostly to kill and multiply. They are not eternally staggered like normal zombies, but they may pretend to be.[4]
Origins
An evil cleric[1][2][3] turned demigod[3] from Oerth named Kyuss first made the spawns of Kyuss.[1][2][3] Today, a cleric with a minimum of 16th level can create a spawn of Kyuss with a Create Greater Undead spell.[4]
Encountering Spawns of Kyuss
The spawn of Kyuss can be encountered in the Darkenheights area of the Shadow Rift, where they are included among the saugh.[5]

"Corruption is the way of all the earth," the corpse muttered, twisting against the bonds of force that held it. "You are dying even as we speak, your body failing, slowly but surely. Whereas I...I live. Even in death."
I saw then the worms writhing beneath its skin, and could not fully bite back a scream of horror as it continued, "Come closer...and I'll show you what it means to be immortal."
