The Godefroy family is one of the great in Mordent and the former leaders of Mordentshire.[1] The Godefroys held at one time the most power, social influence, and wealth of the noble families, but their fortunes ended when Lord Wilfred Godefroy sank into depravity and murdered his wife and child a year before committing suicide to escape their ghostly wrath.[2] With his demise and the ending of the Godefroy surname, rule of Mordent and ownership of Mordentshire's land was given to the Weathermay Family, to which the Weathermays still possess to this day.[3]

The family crest of the Godefroy family is a griffon bearing a staff of wheat in one of is claws and a club in the other.[1]

The Family Today[4]

The last person to bear the Godefroy surname was Lord Wilfred. Though he (and his wife and daughter) linger on as ghosts at the House on Gryphon Hill, Wilfred had no living descendants. This is not to say that there can be no characters, player characters or non-player characters, who have Godefroy blood flowing in their veins, for Wilfred's relatives married into other families such as the Foxgrove Family and Weathermay Family.

The Godefroys display close affinities to the spirit world and as such may appear to jump from topic to topic in conversation. They are more often driven by intuitive insight rather than strictly observational rationality, as they tend to be doubters of what their senses see. Though they tend towards physical illness and fragility, the Godefroys demonstrate a certain inexplicable aura of attraction about them, though this tends to become discomforting through extended contact. A Godefroy is a magnet for ghosts and other spirits. A Godefroy is cursed to see the ghost of any person the Godefroy slays come back to haunt them. Likewise, Godefroy's cursed to rise as a ghost following their own deaths.
