In 5th Edition continuity, Pietra van Riese is the darklord of the Sea of Sorrows, replacing Pieter van Riese of earlier continuities. Unlike Pieter, Pietra is not an explorer but instead is a pirate captain. When she was alive, she became infamous by tying up her victims in ropes and drowning them in the waters of the sea as her ship, the Relentless dragged them along. Eventually her rival won victory over her and sank her ship, also killing her in the process. She later woke up as one of the undead aboard the Relentless once again, supported by a crew of fleshy, corporeal undead[1]
