Native to the world of Toril, Shadow Adepts are spellcasters who plunged freely into the magical abyss that was the Shadow Weave. Many but not all were worshippers of the Evil goddess Shar, who created the Shadow Weave in times immemorial.

For their temerity, Shadow Adepts received great boons, including defensive powers drawn from the dark, the ability to create a temporary double of themselves, and access to all Shadow Weave-related metamagic feats.

Due to the requirements for accessing the Shadow Weave, all Shadow Adepts were of non-Good alignment.
