Salt is a nutriment essential to the material processes of life as understood by biology and is an essential commodity. It also makes useful weapon against leeches. Salt is mined underground but may also be collected from specially created flats by the seashore through the process of evaporation. It has, in certain times and places, served as money, the most easily exchanged commodity, and hence the unit of exchange. This is not currently the case in the Land of Mists.
