Alcoholism is addiction to alcohol which is, strictly speaking, a poison. At least a degree of intoxication is, ideally, a nigh permanent state for alcoholics. They enjoy a capacity to cope with quantities of alcohol and with their intoxication which less practiced drinkers do not usually share. Consequently, their nigh constant intoxication is often not, at least in the short term, incapacitating or even by itself impairing. Nonetheless, the [addiction]] itself is a constant impairment. Their intoxication or drunkenness, but not their addiction, may be ended with a neutralize poison spell.
