Rye denotes both a type of flowering grass and the grain of this plant. Rye is cultivated in cold climates inhospital to wheat. Its grain and stem are harvested. The grain may be milled into a flour. The grain is used as food, to make beer and whiskey, and as fodder. The dried stem is gathered as Straw. Rye is susceptible to inflection by ergot.
