A denizen of the Abyss, the chaotic Shadow Fiends can (in most cases, that is) thank their presence in Ravenloft by a gate spell or some other form of summoning. They are pitch black, vaguely humanoid winged creatures who are single-minded in their goal to spread evil wherever they go.
While Shadow Fiends are true fiends given their Abyssal origin, they are unique among all outsiders in that they do not have a reality wrinkle. Also unique to themselves is their association with the Dark Powers where they are said to work with them instead of against or around them. Whether this is by mutual agreement or by force is unknown, but this presents a grave risk to even the most experienced of demon hunters.
