William Kemmler was an axe murderer sentenced to death in New York. Thomas Edison provided the electric chair as a means for Kemmler's execution. It was part of Edison's ploy to discredit Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse's Alternating Current by showing its danger. After Kemmler's execution, the Red Death resurrected Kemmler as a revenant with an unique power over electricity and lightning. Kemmler recognizes Thomas Edison as his "killer".[1]

The Gothic Earth adaptation of the historical figure William Kemmler was created by John W. Mangrum for The Book of Souls.
