Gray vultures[1] are malicious, dimly intelligent giant vultures that are marked most notably by the poisonous, paralytic phlegm that drips from their beaks. They are surrounding by aura of despair that works as the spell emotion (hopelessness).
As destructive as these birds can be, they are perhaps not entirely without value. Amazingly, some gray vultures are used as prison guardians and allowed to perch on structures overlooking the prisons. Their phlegm is highly valued as ingredients in paralytic poisons. A Darkonian spellcaster is even said to have created a gray vulture feather hat that is able to project the hopelessness that surrounds a gray vulture.
Note that the gray vulture was never updated to 3.x Edition, so the creature types assigned below are speculative.
