The Wanderers consisted of nearly two dozen Vistani of different tasques and tribes who had escaped destruction at the hands of Duke Gundar and were cobbled together by Magda Ilyanova Kulchevich in the years immediately following the murder of her family and tribesmen by Lord Soth in 720 BC. Magda served the tribe, named in honour of the fabled Vistani hero Kulchek the Wanderer, as raunie. Under her strong leadership and with the swelling of their ranks, a situation that had been desperate for the Wanderers became manageable. The destruction of Duke Gundar in 736 BC further improved their circumstances. Their growing sense of security, however, was shattered in 747 BC when the newly arisen Malocchio Aderre launched a pogrom against the Vistani. The western half of Gundarak had been annexed by Invidia following the disappearance of its duke and Aderre's killers were all too willing to push into neighbouring lands including the eastern half of Gundarak that had been annexed by Barovia. Magda responded by leading the Wanderers into Sithicus where she forged a pact with Lord Soth, securing for the tribe protection against Malocchio. For a time the Wanderers went securely about their business as fortune tellers, traders, and thieves. Unfortunately by 752 BC Inza, daughter of Magda, and Azrael, senecheal of Lord Soth, were conspiring with each other and with Malocchio Aderre against their respective rulers. In consequence, all but four of the Wanderers - Inza, Alexi, Nikolas and Piotr - were wiped out in an attack upon the tribe by salt shadows. Inza replaced her mother as raunie, but her treachery was eventually uncovered and she was put to flight, becoming the Darklord of Sithicus. The Wanderers now hunt her, seeking to avenge themselves for her betrayal and for the deaths of their tribesmen. To their ranks they have, exceptionally, added the stone giant Nabon. The Wanderers are a force for good in Sithicus.[1]
Chronology
- 720 BC - In Barovia, Lord Soth kills all of a Vistani Tribe except for the young Magda Ilyanova Kulchevich. Her life is spared on the condition she act as a guide for Soth. After traveling through Barovia and Gundarak, Magda escapes Soth and his sidekick Azrael Dak.[2]
- 720 BC-722 BC - Magda Kulchevich spends two years fleeing from Gundarakite bounty hunters and the minions of Duke Gundar. Along the way, she begins gathering aa group Vistani followers that will eventually become the inter-tribe group known as the Wanderers.[2]
- 736 BC - In Gundarak, Magda Kulchevich gives birth to Inza Kulchevich on the same night Duke Gundar is assassinated.[8]
- 738 BC - An older Magda Kulchevich, now a raunie of her troop of Wanderers, brings her caravan to Sithicus and receives official protection from former foe Lord Soth.[9]
- [[747 BC[[ - Malocchio Aderre, the second dukkar, launches a pogrom of genocide against the Vistani.[11]
- 751 BC-752 BC - Azrael Dak conspires with Inza Kulchevich and Malocchio Aderre for the overthrow of Lord Soth, the destruction of the Wanderers, and the delivery of all the Vistani in Sithicus to Malocchio.[12] Malocchio gives Novgor to Azrael as a symbol of their alliance. Inza trades Nabon to Azrael for Novgor.[13]
- 752 BC - Inza Kulchevich betrays the Wanderers. She sabotages Gard using Novgor. She then instigates the salt shadows to attack the Wanders' camp. Gard's power fails, and it shatters as Magda Kulchevich tries to protect her tribe. She perishes in the battle. Following the attack, Inza manipulates some of Malocchio's ogres into attacking the surviving Wanderers in order to gain the personal protection of Lord Soth.[14]
- 752 BC - The Night of Screaming Shadows Shortly after Madga Kulchevich's death, Azrael Dak enacts his ritual to gain control of Sithicus's shadows. However, he is disrupted by Ganelon. The shadows coalesce and besiege Nedragaard Keep, tearing it apart and seemingly destroying Soth.[12] Inza's treachery is revealed to Nabon and the three remaining Wanderers. To escape their wrath, she jumps into the Great Chasm, right into the thick of the gathering darkness. She survives the impact but becomes the new darklord of Sithicus. The Wanderers swear revenge.[15]
- 753 BC Ganelon the Doomed heals Piotr's hand using his magic sword[16]
