The sea spawn is a singular species of foul aquatic monster that has two very different stages of its life cycle. The sea spawn in its mature form, the master sea spawn, controls its immature offspring, the minion sea spawns, telepathically in order to infiltrate coastal communities. The minion sea spawn are tiny, slug like beings with mouths resembling those of lampreys. The bite of a minion sea spawn carries a [[::category:cause of paralysis|paralytic]] poison that immobilizes its victim and allows the minion sea spawn to burrow into victim's skull and take over the brain. So dominated, the victim turned host waits for its master to burrow more of its kind. Not all of the master's offspring makes it to shore, with a small number swept back into the sea, and a small number of that surviving to maturity.^[1]
