The Ghoul Lord is a secondary antagonist from the Ravenloft product line novel, Shadowborn. In universe, he was a wizard and one of the Dark Triad, the three of the last Ahtrian following the Heretical Wars. Following the end of that war and the banishment of Ebonbane from the mortal world, the Ghoul Lord and the others of the Triad attempted to summon Ebonbane back to the mortal world and place his essence into a sword prison. Ebonbane showed they were only successful in binding him to the sword. Ebonbane killed and reanimated the Triad as special ghouls in his service.[1] Following the transformation, the Ghoul Lord forgot his personal name and picked up the moniker he currently uses.

Following their transformations, Ebonbane ordered his minions into Forenoon Abbey. After the Triad massacred the monastics in Forenoon Abbey[2], the Ghoul Lord came to see the [corrupted]] monastery as his personal lair. Forenoon Abbey was eventually drawn into the Mists as part of the Phantasmal Forest surrounding Shadowborn Manor.[3]

In 626 BC, Alexi Shadowborn, Lysander Graylocks, Desmaria Morningstar, and Ferran Shadowborn ventured into the Demiplane of Dread and confronted the ghouls there. Aided by his associate, the Vapir and the ghoulish remnants of the Abbey's monastics, the Ghoul Lord was nonetheless slain by a surprise blast of Corona's magic light. The Vapir escaped the Ghoul Lord's doom, only to be trampled to death by Pitch, Alexi's mount.[4]
