Although they share the same class name, adepts of Gothic Earth are unrelated to the adept NPC divine spellcasters in 3rd Edition. The adepts are arcane spellcasters that must abide by all the laborious restrictions that the setting imposes on magic, such as slow spellcasting times and Powers Checks for every spell cast.
