Robert Obando is the patriarch of the wealthy merchant Obando Family of Nueva Aragona (Resistencia in particular). In the [[War for Independence (Nueva Aragona}|War for Independence), he was first a quiet royalist but then switch sides when it seemed that the republic partisans would win in the war. Although Resistencia is theoretically part of a Republic in general and of Nueva Aragona in specific, Robert only makes a pretense of belonging to both. In practice, he is temporal leader of a government structure that can best be described as a mercantile oligarchy. Like the rest of the Obando Family, he is actually a vampyre.
