Ruled by Prince Loht, the Unseelie Court is the more malign of the Two Courts that rule the Arak (the other Court being the Seelie Court ruled by Queen Maeve)[1] Each of the Two Courts rules Arak society in the Shadow Rift six months during each of their years[2] (their year only a fortnight outside of the Shadow Rift due to temporal fugue[3]). The Malachite Palace serves as the seat of authority for whichever faction is currently in power[2]. (Maeve and Loht will rule together during the couple of days between each regime rotation.[2]) In the months he is not ruling from the Malachite Palace, Prince Loht holds his court in his Besmirth palace.[2].

The Leader

Prince Loht is the prince of the sith and indeed leader of all the Unseelie fey. Though Loht rules with an iron fist, his Unseelie followers view him with awe and reverence as well as fear. He speaks softly but elegantly, acting in such a fashion as to make his detached brutality the stuff of legends.[4] Under Loht's rule, the Unseelie Court has a decidedly more organized and orderly (as in, Lawful) bent than the Seelie Court. To assist in sustaining this order, Loht created the office of Whip. It is currently led by Princess Malinda and Prince Mohrg, the leaders of the powrie and muryan respectively.

The Unseelie Court experienced significant setbacks when, led by Loht, they opened the Obsidian Gate in an effort to free Arak the Erlking but instead almost freed GwydionCite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag. Should he perish, the Unseelie Court will falter and dissolve [5].

=Composition

Of the Arak subraces, the sith hold the most sway over the Useelie Court, but the unseelie fir, muryan, powrie, and teg maintain significant presences as well[4]. For most court-going fey attend it only when their faction is in charge, unable to stomach the contrasting ways of the opposite Court. (A few politically adept individuals do stay around the full year).[2] In alignment, the Court overall is of a decidedly Evil bent[6].

Due to decaying relations with Loht and her concern for Gwydion's hidden but growing influence upon the Unseelie, Maeve has forbidden Unseelie fey from participating in the Seelie Court[7].
