The 718 BC Rat Plague is an event in the history of Conquista, a domain in the Wartorn Cluster. The plague was caused by overhunting of the domain's fox population by fur-trappers and farmers who considered foxes to be pests. Due to the domain's vulpine population being pruned back so far, the rodent population practically exploded, and farms were overrun by mice, rats and rabbits.

Erik Altermount, who was president at the time, responded to the calamity by blaming the aforementioned fur-trappers and farmers, and forbidding the hunting of foxes all across the nation. Currently, the fox population is once again healthy and keeps the rodents under control. Predictably, there are groups like Sangre de Zorro that are lobbying for a repeal of the ban.
