Bartley
Barley was a ship's captain from Port-a-Lucine who was down on his luck. He approached in desperation a Vistana for a reading of his future in the hope that she might find a spot of good luck for him. She promised him a bright future on the condition that a request that she would subsequently make be fulfilled. He agreed. Upon arriving in Ludendorf the lumber that he was carrying proved to be worth an unimagined fortune for the town had been ravished by fire. Thereafter he received a knock on his door one foggy night and opened it to find the vistana crone. She asked him to forever quit his ship and abandon the sea. He refused and was claimed by the sea in a storm that tore apart his ship but strangely spared the lives of all his crew.
The validity of the tale may be doubted, however, as it was told by Captain Nathan Timothy who may have been seeking to justify his bigotry in respect to the Vistani.
