The University of Il Aluk in Exile unites the living remnants of the University of Il Aluk. There were professors and administators of the the university who had the good fortune of being outside of Il Aluk when the Requiem struck. They came together in the weeks following the disaster and determined that their university would survive. Karg was chosen to be its seat for the present and it was renamed the Univerity of Il Aluk in Exil. Professor Abelhous Nicholsi was a chief mover in this effort up until his death in 751 BC. Naturally enough, defections to other institutions and the chaos into which Darkon sank gravely threatened the effort.

Had there not been beyond the the university itself a further goal, the effort might have wholly floundered and been abandonned. For the project was not merely about saving the institution. The project aimed at nothing less than retaking Il Aluk for the living. How this might be attempted none could yet say. The answer would no doubt be be long and slow in coming, arising from a generation or more of research. Not a word of this would be professed openly. But secretly, in closed committee or conference, decisions would be taken and policies set always in relation to this overarching goal.

The long term mandate of the institution calls for the reoccupation of its former seat, which is to say the lifting of the Shroud, the retaking of Il Aluk, and presumably, in some sense, the defeat of Death. None of this is proclaimed loudly, but money has been made available in particular for arcane studies which are so defined as to exclude neither necrology nor planar mechanics. Proposed research in these two areas, especially should it be connected with Negative Energy or positive energy or the negative energy plane or Negative Energy Plane, often enough recevie positive replies to requests for funding.
