The University of Il Aluk in Exile unites the living remnants of its namesake. There were professors who had the good fortune of being outside of Il Aluk when the Requiem struck. They came together in the weeks following the disaster and decided their institution would survive. Karg would become its seat and it would be renamed the University of Il Aluk in Exil. Professor Abelhous Nicholsi, up until his death in 751 BC, was a chief mover in this effort. Naturally enough, defections to other institutions and the chaos into which Darkon had sank gravely threatened the project.

Had there not been an additional goal, the effort might have wholly floundered and been abandonned. The project was not one of simply the saving the venerable institution. The project aimed at nothing less than the retaking of Il Aluk for the living. How this might be attempted none could yet say. The answer would no doubt would be long and slow in coming, arising from a generation or more of research. Not a word of this would be professed openly. In closed committee or conference however, decisions would be taken and policies set always in relation to this overarching goal.

Still, the project was doomed without money. New benefactors were found however.

The long term mandate of the institution calls for the reoccupation of its former seat, which is to say the lifting of the Shroud, the retaking of Il Aluk, and presumably, in some sense, the defeat of Death. None of this is proclaimed loudly, but money has been made available in particular for arcane studies which are so defined as to exclude neither necrology nor planar mechanics. Proposed research in these two areas, especially should it be connected with Negative Energy or positive energy or the negative energy plane or Negative Energy Plane, often enough recevie positive replies to requests for funding.
