Butchery is the work of the butcher. It differs fundamentally from dissection in its goal, the removal of the edible flesh from a dead body for cooking and eating. Curiously, the immensely skilled surgeon Dr. Frantisek Markov started out as a butcher. Many hunters and cooks are somewhat competent butchers. The work of chiurgeons on the operating table and of soldiers on the battlefield is sometimes said to be butchery.
