The Chief Constable leads the City Guard of Paridon. The position is a dangerous, difficult, stressful, and thankless one. Infiltration of the guard by doppelgangers is a ceaseless threat. There have been at least 6 Chief Constables since 742 BC. Appointment to, and removal from, the post is by the City Council. Competence is valued but not valued more than political savvy. The post is traditionally held by an aristocrat.
