The Wanderers consisted of nearly two dozen Vistani of different tasques and tribes who had escaped destruction at the hands of Duke Gundar and were cobbled together into a new tribe by Magda Ilyanova Kulchevich in years immediately following the murder of her family and tribesmen in 720 BC by Lord Soth. Magda served the Wanderers, named in honour of the fabled Vistani hero Kulchek the Wanderer, as raunie. Under her strong leadership and with the swelling of their ranks, a situation that had been desperate became manageable. The destruction of Duke Gundar in 736 BC further improved their circumstances. Their growing sense of security was shattered in 747 BC when the newly arisen Malocchio Aderre launched a pogram against the Vistani. The western half of Gundarak had been annexed by Invidia following the disappearance of its duke and Aderre's killers were all to willing to push into neighbouring lands including the eastern half of Gundarak that had been annexed by Barovia.
