There is a 3.5 Liber Mortis Deity who focus on undeath and love, Twilight Glory. Maybe she is the patron of such a being.Jeremy16 wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2024 6:27 pmThen what's the use of the character sitcking around if she's already had her revenge? I was just trying to come up with a method for her to recur and expand her crusade to seeking out other Lotharios instead of being a one-and-done baddie.edised wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 10:06 pm She is dead now, I did say that right, I doubt normal people ask the dead much.
Or did you think she went by “heart taker witch” when she was alive?
(BTW, this being Ravenloft, maybe normal people don't seek out the dead, but there's plenty of shall we say... abnormal people that may have some twisted interest in it. Heck, if you want to play it for laughs, you can even have your heart-taker witch act as a matchmaker to the undead! "Looking for the ghoul of your dreams? Come to the Queen of Hearts." It practically writes itself!)

The watchman: his origin is debated, a guard that stayed at his post against impossible odds, a knight that’s oath lasts every in death, a criminal working of thare sins. But desecrate or grave rob at your own risk. The watchmen will fallow them, appearing as a grim faced guard watching them before vanishing. It will appear in thare dreams, becoming nightmares involving the dead. Such as being sentenced to imprisonment but thare cell is a grave, or to be executed in a graveyard and the dead come to watch.

I think lichdom should be reserved for people who actively chose undeath and worked for it. Go with revenant.Jeremy16 wrote: Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:13 pm I just didn't know if I should make him a lich outright, or if that back story was strong enough to make him something more unique - a necromacer revenant. And I'm really not sure if it would make a difference in the abilities I want him to have.

The beggar: thay appear as a beggar of unknown age, they are lowsome looking with a crooked leg and missing fingers, bent as if carrying a invisible burden, thare face is worn with a burn mark on thare right side, and some kind of rash on there left. They have a wooden bowl for alms, other down trodden know of there wisdom and willingness to help, oddly he seems always hungry.
The street people learn not to cross him, for all acts to him are returned 5 fold.

A few years ago I was on a school trip to the desert, and my classmates kept loitering the place. I told them over and over again that a mountain goat might eat their snack bags and get suffocated, but they didn't listen.
So that night, around the campfire, I stopped the singalong and made up on spot a horror story about the vengeful spirit of a mountain goat who kills in their sleep those who pollute nature.

There are also the brujahs, hags who have a change of heart and become good after seeing a vision of their own ghastly demises. The Lesser Evil wrote: Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:34 pm There's a few existing examples in Ravenloft lore:
-Nikolai Melentha (from Children of the Night: Ghosts)- the wrathful ghost of a murdered youth, that lashes out against those he thinks wrongs children. However, he often does without thinking of the consequences.
-The Whispering Beast and Bloody Cobbler, dual supernatural agents of law and chaos formerly occupying Sithicus (from Spectre of the Black Rose)
-Fenhounds, whom stalk those whom do wrong (as in, fail Powers Checks) in the swamps and moors of Ravenloft.
